Second UM Innovation Technology Showcase Wows Investors with Breadth of UM Discoveries

Standing by the poster that represented research from their team at the Diabetes Research Institute, Miller School researchers Margarita Nieto, M.D., and Samuel Rosero, M.D., proudly repeated the same information to potential investors and visitors at the UM Innovation Technology Showcase.

And for good reason. Led by principal investigator Ricardo Pastori, Ph.D., "Molecular Biology Studies of the Endocrine Pancreas" explores the manipulation of microRNA to improve insulin production -- research with enormous potential to help millions of diabetics.

Miller School Urology Professor Chairs Eighth World Basic Urological Research Congress
Vinata Lokeshwar, Ph.D., addressed the World Basic Urological Research Congress at the eighth annual event held in New Orleans on November 5.

Vinata Lokeshwar, Ph.D., professor of urology and co-director of urology research, was the program committee chair for the eighth World Basic Urological Research Congress held in New Orleans November 5 to 8. Bringing together some of the preeminent scientists in the world researching urologic issues, the Congress convened as a joint meeting between the Society for Basic Urologic Research and the European Society for Urological Research.

UHealth Physicians Host Asociación de Cardiólogos de Nicaragua (ASCANI) Symposium

UHealth cardiologists gathered in Managua, Nicaragua, for the Asociación de Cardiólogos de Nicaragua (ASCANI) Symposium November 6 to 8, to discuss the latest advances and treatments in interventional cardiology . Hector Jimenez, M.D., medical director of University of Miami Hospital, and Mauricio G. Cohen, M.D., associate professor of medicine, presented lectures on acute coronary syndrome and other topics.

Senior Women Faculty Host Evening of Networking and Mentoring for Junior Faculty

The Women in Academic Medicine (WIAM) at the Miller School, with sponsorship from SEEDS (Scientists and Engineers Expanding Diversity), hosted an evening of networking and mentoring for 40 women faculty at the home of Anne Burdick, M.D., professor of dermatology and associate dean for telehealth and clinical outreach.
