Miller School Launches New M.D./M.P.H. Track
An educational pioneer at the Miller School, Laurence Gardner, M.D., executive dean for education and policy (at podium), led efforts to launch the new Public Health Physician curriculum, which will allow students to jointly earn an M.D. and M.P.H. after four years of school.
On Monday, the Miller School announced the formation of a new educational track, one that will award participating students both an M.D. and an M.P.H. (Master of Public Health) after four years of school. The program will be based in both Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties and will respond directly to a severe shortage of physicians trained in public health and health care delivery.

UHealth Sports Medicine Hosts Student Ambassador Seminar

(Top) From left are the Student Ambassador Seminar's Lee Kaplan, M.D.; Lauryn Williams, Olympic athlete; Randy Shannon, UM head football coach; and Vincent Scavo, director of sports medicine services. (Bottom) Dean Pascal J. Goldschmidt, M.D., welcomed students to the seminar held at University of Miami Hospital.

Dozens of students from public and private high schools in Miami-Dade and Broward counties attended a Student Ambassador Seminar on Friday at University of Miami Hospital. The leadership of UHealth Sports Medicine invited the students to attend the day-long event designed to help them develop leadership skills they can share with their classmates.

Lee Kaplan, M.D., chief of UHealth Sports Medicine, was inspired to host the seminar after seeing too many young people fall into trouble that, in some cases, cost them their lives. "We believe in the kids of South Florida," Dr. Kaplan told the gathering. "One thing you can get out of today is to learn how to make the right decisions in life, so you can stay out of trouble."

Construction Notice

Work will begin on the construction of a new steam line on the south side of the Rosenstiel Medical Science Building on Monday, August 9. The anticipated project completion date is November 19.

The new steam line will provide steam to the Rosenstiel and several other buildings, which is essential to research operations. Please allow extra time for deliveries, and be patient as we continue to make necessary improvements to our campus.
